Donkey hiking: answering your questions

The donkey carries a maximum of 40 kg

Your backpacks or travel bags hang directly on the pack saddle. One on each side, the weight must be balanced.

Young children can sit (under parental responsibility) on the back of the animal, but some sections require getting off and walking.

What to bring:

  • For picnics: cutlery, plate, cup, airtight plastic box (for salads made by your hosts).
  • First aid kit, flashlight, toiletries with towel, etc.

Your clothing:

  • Classic hiking outfit, to be adapted according to the seasons.
  • Good quality rain cape mandatory (not just a simple windbreaker).
  • Trash bags to keep spare clothes dry (very useful in case of a storm).
  • Good walking shoes are essential on our limestone terrains.
  • Weight and volume are not assets even with a pack donkey.

Orientation:

Upon your departure, we study together the mapped out map as well as the explanatory topo sheet concerning your hike. Nevertheless, it would be desirable for you to have a little habit of the triptych: map, topo, terrain.

Tip: You can also download the "Visorando" app, for example, on your mobile and leave with my GPS tracks. Not an essential option!

Pace and effort:

The donkey does not allow for great sporting feats (4 km/h), so the stages are short. But these are indeed hiking trips, practicing a maintenance physical activity is recommended!

Stopover gites and guest houses:

Will serve you (with rare exceptions) full board: dinner, night, breakfast, and a picnic for the next day's stage.

Dietary requirements to be specified on the day of quote acceptance, no arrangements will be made thereafter!

You will find mattresses, fitted sheets, and blankets there. In principle in a non-shared room, but common sanitary facilities. It's up to you to take a sleeping bag or a liner bag.

Life with the donkey:

The hosts who welcome you will show you the paddocks we have set up for your traveling companions. They will graze there quietly.

Dogs: Dogs are not accepted, except for bivouacs, but they can be annoying in our countryside. Do your best by being sure that its pads will support the small rocky paths of medium mountains!

Age of children: Children under 3 years old (and still under certain reservations) are not suitable for our roaming circuits.

Donkey Info Sheet

Equipped with our advice, you set off for a hike that we wish you to be rich in relaxation and beauty.

Nevertheless, the mountain (even at low altitude) retains its wild and unpredictable character. It is not marked territory.

  • Before one week of departure: €60
  • Less than 7 days before departure: the deposit is cashed.
  • On the way: the total + return shuttle costs.
