Ascent of Mont Aigoual
An exceptional journey to the highest point of the Gard.
Trip Description
Day 1: Ser’ane / St Maurice + 650 m ; 14 km Crossing the Seranne mountain, access to southern Larzac. Day 2: St Maurice / Cirque de Navacelles. + 150 m ; 12 km. Wild Vis gorges, Cirque de Navacelles. Day 3: Navacelles / Alzon. + 450 m ; 19 km. Vis resurgence, Campestre limestone plateau. Day 4: Alzon / Dourbies. + 800 m ; 16 km. Ascent of Pic St Guiral, Cévennes National Park. Day 5: Dourbies / Camprieu + 500 m ; 12 km. State forest, Cévennes. Visit of the "Perte du Bonheur" (stream). Day 6: Camprieu / Mont Aigoual. + 600 m ; 12 km. Night at the summit at the observatory, alt 1565 m. Day 7: Mont Aigoual / Valleraugue. + 0 ; 17 km. Descent into the Hérault gorges, return shuttle. Circuit also possible in bivouac version.
