Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about hiking with a donkey
Do I need to be an experienced hiker?
No, our circuits are suitable for all levels, including beginners and families. We take the time to teach you how to handle the donkey before you leave (grooming, saddling, leading). The donkey walks at a steady pace (3-4 km/h), ideal for enjoying the scenery.
From what age can children participate?
Children can participate from a young age. They can ride the donkey (under parental responsibility) if they are tired, generally up to a maximum of 40kg. For toddlers, we recommend a backpack carrier for parents.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, dogs are generally accepted on the trails, but they must be kept on a leash in the presence of herds. However, not all accommodations accept dogs. Please specify this when requesting a quote.
How about accommodations?
We book accommodations for you (stopover gites, guest houses, campsites, or bivouac depending on your formula). They are all selected for their welcome and their ability to accommodate donkeys (fenced meadow, water, hay).
What does the donkey carry?
The donkey carries your luggage (clothes, picnic, water, sleeping gear) in adapted saddlebags, up to a maximum of 30-40kg. This allows you to walk light! Be careful not to overload it for its comfort.
Are donkeys stubborn?
It's a legend! Donkeys are cautious and think before acting. If they stop, it's often because they perceive a danger or don't understand what is expected of them. With the advice we give you at the start, a relationship of trust is established very quickly.
